In our second article, we examined <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/pulse\/design-manufacturing-art-possible-precision-engineering-rxkuc\/?trackingId=gXlXDJIxQU6PwMmfBNapXQ%3D%3D\"><b>Design for Manufacturing (DFM)<\/b><\/a> through the lens of an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.beyonics.com\/integrated-adas-housing\/\"><b>ADAS radar and camera housing<\/b><\/a>, where early collaboration on tooling and process validation proved essential. In our third article, we focused on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/pulse\/design-assembly-taming-complexity-high-volume-production-wnnsc\/?trackingId=rUfAQwCZSGeKb71KD8oXqg%3D%3D\"><b>Design for Assembly (DFA)<\/b><\/a> through our work on a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.beyonics.com\/cgm-device\/\"><b>Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM) device<\/b><\/a>, demonstrating how intelligent assembly planning enables high-volume production.<\/p><p class=\"western\">This month, we turn to <b>Design for Reliability (DFR) and Design for Testability (DFT)<\/b>: the complementary disciplines of ensuring products perform as intended over their full lifecycle \u2013 and verifying that performance through repeatable, scalable testing.<\/p><p class=\"western\">In SmartTech applications \u2013 where security systems must operate without failure for years, often in critical infrastructure or unattended environments \u2013 reliability is not a feature. It is a fundamental requirement.<\/p><h5><strong>The future of product development is collaborative. A design that cannot be tested effectively is a design prone to hidden failures. A design that has not been validated for real-world conditions will fail in the field \u2013 eroding user trust, increasing warranty costs, and damaging brand reputation.<\/p><p class=\"western\">In regulated industries like MedTech and Mobility, DFR and DFT are backed by formal standards such as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.beyonics.com\/certificates-2\/\"><b>ISO 13485<\/b><\/a> (medical devices) and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.beyonics.com\/certificates-2\/\"><b>IATF 16949<\/b><\/a> (automotive). Unlike conventional electronic locks that require batteries or wired power, this system generates the energy needed for authentication and unlocking directly from the kinetic motion of inserting a key into the lock cylinder \u2013 with no batteries in the lock, no batteries in the key, and no dependency on Wi-Fi or internet connectivity for basic operation.<\/p><p class=\"western\">The lock performs electronic authentication and access-rights verification using <b>AES-256-encrypted communication<\/b> between the key and the cylinder, with resistance to credential copying and secure digital credential management.
